David Mansfield, Area General Manager, Melbourne and Canberra - IHG

Chair of National Employment Advisory Board


David Mansfield entered hospitality management three decades ago, and has since been driving change and efficacy through senior management roles across six countries within the Pacific, South East Asia, South Asia and the Middle East. David’s strengths lie in asset management, value creation, operational excellence, strategic alignment and positioning, digital, sales and marketing, food and beverage design/concept development, cultural change and talent development. David has made an art of balancing the demands and strategy of asset owners and brand entities, while consistently delivering on the guest promise in an ever changing landscape.

Small to large enterprises in both hotel city and resort operations have been the beneficiary of David’s leadership, where he has exceeded and redefined brand and owner benchmarks across soft and hard metrics. Highlights of which include; improving associate engagement by 31%, reduced FTE’s up to 35% whilst improving retention from 48% to 15% p.a., re-engineered businesses cost base in line with market conditions generating net savings of AUD10 million within a year, increased RevPAR from AUD156 to AUD185 at a yearly growth of 4% p.a., and leading large teams of up to 1,200 associates for one business unit to over 3,000 within a portfolio of properties.

Calling Australia home, David has identified opportunity to mould a national talent pipeline for the industry, spearheading and facilitating educational and philanthropic partnerships within the region.
 

Cherie McGill, Executive Director Human Resources - Mantra Group

Cherie joined Mantra Group in 2004.

As Executive Director Human Resources, Cherie is responsible for the human resources practices for all brands across the organisation, including payroll, OH&S, learning and development and corporate social responsibility.

Cherie has over 20 plus years’ experience in the human resources sector.

Cherie has held senior human resource management positions with both the Saville Hotel Group and P&O Australian Resorts.

Cherie is a member of the Australian Human Resources Institute and is an advisory board member for the Southern Cross University Tourism and Hospitality School. 

Janette Illingsworth, Group Training Partnership Manager - The Star Entertainment Group

Janette has worked in the field of Travel, Tourism, Education and Leadership Management for the past 25+ years. The past two years working for The Star Entertainment Group. Janette’s role is responsible for managing external Organisational Learning & Development relationships to provide high quality candidates and programs for The Star Entertainment Group to build organisational effectiveness and a culture of guest excellence.

Her career has been spent in the field of adult education and training, program design and delivery for talent development within the travel and tourism industry.  Working in large complex premium branded organisations, to support organisational goals and strategy through building leadership and team capability

Janette has a strong strategic mindset and enthusiasm for coaching and mentoring, supports leaders to embed a talent development culture for future business growth and talent development and retention.  
 

Lynda Ugarte, Head of Human Resources - Australasia and Japan - IHG

Lynda’s role encompasses 73 hotels and more than 12,000 colleagues across two diverse and mature markets. She partners with corporate and hotel leaders to deliver HR Services and IHG People offer in a locally relevant way, taking advantage of the power of IHG’s global brands. 

Starting her career in hotel operations, Lynda then owned her own business for several years and developed her career as senior lecturer in hotel school education, building graduate career programs for industry. She joined IHG in 2006 as Talent Development Manager for InterContinental Sydney before taking on roles of increasing seniority and scope that led her to her current position.

Lynda has a deep passion for engaging and enabling people to reach their potential while contributing to business success. She was instrumental in designing and launching RISE, IHG’s mentoring initiative for female colleagues who aspire to becoming a hotel General Manager.

Michelle Bevan, Director of Human Resources - TFE 

Michelle has more than 20 years experience in customer service and human resource management, having held senior management roles in the Hospitality, Information Technology and Financial Services sectors.

Michelle has a breadth of experience from undertaking both specialist and general human resource management roles and combines this with general management experience where she transformed and built customer service teams and business units.

Michelle  was appointed Director of Human Resources for TFE Hotels in 2014, with responsibility for human resources strategy and practice including service culture development, learning and organisational development, talent and career development, attraction and selection, rewards and recognition and employment policy.

She has been part of many business change projects and cross functional team to drive improved customer experience, finance transformation, systems implementations and preparation for and delivery of new hotel openings.

 

Narelle Glynn, Group Director - People & Performance - Lancemore Group

Narelle is a dynamic leader who brings global experience in talent strategy and professional services consulting to her role as Group Director - People & Performance at the Lancemore Group. She is passionate about enabling leaders to get the most out of their people through high-trust relationships, a coaching mindset and empowered teams. Having spent much of her career in the financial services sector, she was delighted to make the transition to hospitality in 2017, allowing her to align her professional skills with her personal passion for food, wine and travel. 
 

Rochelle Choyna, Regional Talent and Culture Manager - VIC/TAS/SA - ACCOR

Rochelle Choyna is the AccorHotels Regional Talent and Culture Manager for Victoria, Tasmania and South Australia.  In addition to performing  the responsibilities  of Talent  and Culture Director, Rochelle provides leadership to the AccorHotels National  Inclusion and Diversity  Committee spearheading AccorHotels goals and progressing  initiatives  to ensure equal opportunity for all employees, regardless  of race, ethnicity, heritage, gender,  age, religion,  disability, sexual orientation and gender identity. In 2015, Rochelle established the successful ‘Women in Business’ Hospitality Networking group for likeminded women, which has become a place for women to share ideas, personal journeys and provide mentoring and support to others in the industry.

Spending 15 years in Executive leadership roles in hotels, Rochelle has demonstrated expertise in people development and building positive guest focused cultures. She further developed her Human Resources and Event Management experience at the Melbourne Convention and Exhibition Centre for 5 years before venturing back to hotels with AccorHotels.

Rochelle enjoys interacting with a wide range of people, mentoring Food and Beverage professionals and fostering a strategic approach to people and career development.
 

Troy Schufft, Director - AAoA Training Academy

With over 15 years experience in the Vocational Education and Training (VET) sector, Troy brings a wealth of experience to the AAoA Academy for the learning and development outcomes for the industry. Troy has vast experience in all sectors of the VET sector which enables the Academy to give sound advice and expertise to AAoA members on training and potential Government funding opportunities. Troy’s role is to work closely with the members to provide sound learning and development advice and connect recommended training provider from pre employment programs through to advanced Diploma’s. Based on Troy’s experience combined with industry consultation and engagement, he is able to drive quality training outcomes for members and employee’s through the Academy.
