Sydney is to get a swath of new hotel rooms to cater for the growth of inbound tourism and the rise in demand from business travellers who want facilities close to the airport and accessible to the city.
Construction on Peppers Southbank, a new $60 million hotel in Melbourne’s vibrant arts and entertainment district, is now underway following a ground-breaking ceremony late last week.
CapitaLand’s wholly owned serviced residence business, The Ascott Limited, is acquiring an additional 60% stake in Quest Apartment Hotels for A$180 million. This will increase Ascott’s stake in Quest from its current 20% to 80%, propelling Ascott to become the largest serviced residence provider in Australasia.
Leading hotel and resort operator, Mantra Group, has united the Group’s 128 properties across Australia, New Zealand, Bali and Hawaii, consolidating its multi-branded portfolio into a new single consumer brand, known simply as Mantra Hotels.
The Palaszczuk Government has secured additional flights to attract more tourists and create more jobs for Queensland, with China Airlines to increase its Taipei-Brisbane service from four times per week to daily.
